Democratic Ohio governor and Obama VP short-lister Ted Strickland announced Wednesday a plan for the Buckeye State’s economic growth, featuring the development of the renewable energy and aerospace industries.
The plan, entitled “Ohio, Home of Innovation and Opportunity,” was presented to hundreds of business leaders. It is intended to overcome negative perceptions of Ohio’s economy.
The state, birthplace to Neil Armstrong and Thomas Edison, has an unemployment rate of 7.2 percent, the highest level in more than 15 years.
Strickland touted the state’s low cost of living, continued growth in exports, and the fact that it is soon to be one of only two states that don’t have a general tax on corporate profits.
The plan targets advanced energy, aerospace, agriculture, bioscience and bioproducts, corporate services, distribution and logistics, instruments and electronics, motor vehicle manufacturing and polymers.
The state will focus on work force development and training for these industries.
