Community Organizer Jobs

A community organizer creates solid working relationships by managing communications between the agency and public representatives, local residents, business owners, and stakeholders. A community organizer focuses on low- to moderate-income individuals and has an interest in social justice issues. A community organizer works to empower a community of individuals, such as the residents of a specific area, the0 low-income citizens of a city, people who suffer from a particular illness, or individuals who work in a specific field. A community organizer organizes new and assists existing grassroots groups with local, regional, and state planning committees. A community organizer assists committees in developing strategic plans and provides necessary support for implementing those plans. A community organizer assists community members in learning more about educational and economic issues that they are concerned about. A community organizer works in an office to gather information about the community and to collect data which could be useful and also works on the streets, talking directly with members of the community, organizing meetings, and promoting community empowerment.

A community organizer position typically requires bachelor’s degree and two to five years of community organizing, advocacy, planning, or political work experience. A community organizer should be comfortable speaking succinctly before a large group. A community organizer should have strong presentation, training, and writing skills, as well as keen analytical skills. A community organizer should have the ability to work with diverse religious congregations and racial/ethnic communities.
