Position Summary Information
The Horizons Program is a regional perinatal/maternal substance abuse treatment program of the Department of OB-GYN at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. This program provides comprehensive, gender specific outpatient and residential treatment for pregnant women and mothers and their children. In this program, a pregnant women or a mother and her children may reside in their own apartment for up to one year (with 6 months aftercare). The mother works on her recovery from active addiction, trauma and other mental health issues, parenting, and education and employment for self-sufficiency. The children who reside with the mother receive comprehensive evaluations and treatment as indicated.

UNC Horizons Program seeks Residential Advisor to work in a residential treatment program for women with substance abuse issues and their children.
These programs operate 24/7, 365 days a year. This position involves both structured and informal direct client services and supervision; documentation; transporting residents in a state van; general upkeep of program facility and providing structured childcare while residents are at meetings or appointments.
This position will provide services to clients in home and community that emphasize personal safety, self-worth, connection to the community, boundary setting, planning, self-advocacy, personal fulfillment, development of social supports, and effective communication skills. In addition, the services provided shall emphasize the acquisition, development, and expansion of rehabilitative skills needed to move forward in recovery.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
This position requires professionalism along with the ability to take initiative, use good judgment, and multi-task. Must have good interpersonal skills to relate positively to clients and their families.
Prefer someone who has experience working with women with addictions in a residential treatment facility.
