Regional Director of (Mental Health) Peer Services

Independent Living, Inc.

, a progressive and dynamic disability services organization with 5 locations throughout Newburgh, Middletown and Monticello, New York is seeking to hire a Regional Director of Peer Services

to oversee peer mental health services and substance use recovery services. Must have strong leadership and people management skills with the ability to hold people accountable. Must have personal lived experience as a former or current user of mental health services or have personal substance use recovery experience and be comfortable with self-disclosure as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

Oversee all programmatic aspects of Reach One, Onward Recovery and Mental Health’s Home and Community Based Service (HCBS) Waiver programs; Support staff to achieve outcomes/deliverables, review staff and align tasks and job responsibilities; Provide direct oversight in the development of HCBS implementation of services; Act as liaison between Independent Living, Inc. (ILI), Reach One, Recovery Community & Outreach Center (RCOC) and key partnerships as well as partnerships with managed care companies; Provide leadership, direction and technical support to Independent Living, Inc. (ILI) Peer Mental Health Services; Act as role model and motivate through hope and inspiration while supporting many pathways to recovery; Responsible for coordinating regional peer support training to support what is happening in the recovery community and discuss emerging trends; Responsible for training staff to teach others the skills available for recovery so that they may internalize a sense of wellness and self-worth; Create plan to achieve the following measurable outcome objectives: 1) prevent hospitalization and reduce recidivism; 2) provide flexible, intensive peer support during periods when individuals with psychiatric disabilities are experiencing increased vulnerability and are at greatest risk; 3) coordinate and integrate Mental Health and Physical Health services, connecting individuals to effective clinical services, a Primary Care Physician and a Medical Home; 4) stabilization and acclimation in the community, leading to a greater degree of independence and improved quality of life; 5) gainful employment and active participation in the community; 6) portability and demand responsiveness of Recovery Center Services; 7) Provide services dedicated to achieving wellness and recovery, and facilitating constructive community connections; 8) facilitate transformation among traditional services in collaboration with counties and provider organizations; Offer consulting support to Peer Recovery Specialists in the Mid-Hudson Region to provide outreach, counseling, mentoring, systems navigations and other outcome oriented supports targeted to individuals diagnosed with psychiatric diagnoses; Manage Reach One subcontracts; Meet regularly with Reach One staff from Independent Living, Inc. (ILI) and Mental Health Association of (MHA) of Rockland and People, Inc. to help facilitate an on-going dialogue among partner agencies as well as discuss training needs of individuals with mental illness.

Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology or Counseling, preferred or Bachelor’s Degree with commensurate experience; Minimum of 5 years of strong management experience, preferred; MUST HAVE STRONG PEOPLE MANAGEMENT SKILLS and be able to hold people accountable; Strong relationship builder and communicator with experience leading diverse work teams and engaging community partners; Passionate about the ILI mission and able to promote and communicate the philosophy, mission, and values of ILI to external and internal stakeholders; Must have the ability to manage data outcomes and production; Ability to travel to provide on-site leadership for multi-site program with a clean driving record; Must be a mental health peer and have a working knowledge of the mental health system and recovery process (including but not limited to 12 step programs, Self Help and other alternative methods); Knowledge of ADA, mental health laws and systems, Social Security Programs, Work Incentives, Entitlement Programs, supported employment, Federal/state/local services, laws and systems related to individuals with disabilities; Have knowledge of histories, patterns and issues contributing to Mental Health and Substance Use recidivism.
