Position Primary Purpose and General Responsibilities
Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Alumni Relations, the Director of Alumni Volunteer Programs & Professional Development is responsible for the strategic recruitment, training, professional development, evaluation, and stewardship of alumni volunteers across the
Alumni enterprise. The Director of Alumni Volunteer Programs & Professional Development works closely with the Associate Vice President for Alumni Relations to elevate the caliber of the alumni volunteer experience at
. This includes working with schools and units to create new volunteer roles, increasing alumni awareness of existing volunteer opportunities, encouraging participation in alumni volunteer training experiences, tracking volunteer engagement in the
database and any affiliated systems, creating a stewardship program to thank alumni volunteers, and building a culture of philanthropy amongst all alumni volunteers. The Director of Alumni Volunteer Programs & Professional Development will serve as the central point of contact for responding to internal and external constituent inquiries about alumni volunteerism and engagement.
Some duties of the position include:
•Develop and administer the strategy for the recruitment, training, professional development, evaluation, and stewardship of all alumni volunteers across the Division of Development & Alumni Relations.
•Design and implement a comprehensive on-going training program for all full-time staff in the Division of Development and Alumni Relations who manage alumni volunteers, including staff managing leadership councils housed in schools and units outside of Development & Alumni Relations.
•Collect, record, query, and evaluate alumni volunteer data to measure volunteer engagement to support strategic decision-making with respect to future volunteer engagement efforts.
•Utilize data to conduct discovery in coordination with development officers to enhance the pipeline of engagement and stimulate volunteer philanthropy.
Minimum Hiring Standards
-Professional experience in a higher education setting, including experience in development, institutional advancement, or a related field such as event planning/management, communications, marketing, or public relations.
-Demonstrated ability to strategize, implement, and build constituency programs and activities, along with a talent for motivating volunteers.
-Experience in the creation and deployment of in-person and on-line training programs.
-Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills required; significant administrative experience in detail-oriented office with high level of interaction with outside community and University academic and medical communities.
-Considerable knowledge in writing publications of various types and within tight timeframes.
-Positive public image.
-Personal commitment to the fundraising industry as evidenced through a strong work ethic and high standards.
-Ability to interact personably within a complex administrative organization, as well as with external groups.
-Maintain confidentiality – ability to work in confidential environment with all levels of internal and external
-Uses sound judgment.
-Ability to prioritize, focus, work independently and be a self-starter.
-Ability to travel both locally and regionally as determined necessary.
-Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so at
-Ability to work frequent evenings and occasional weekend events.
Preferred Hiring Standards
-Experience in working with volunteers is highly desired.
-Graduate degree in related field, or equivalent experience in higher education, corporate, or non-profit environment.
