VA Hudson Valley Health Care System is recruiting for a full-time Supervisory Social Worker-Housing and Urban Development-Veterans Affair Supported Housing (HUD-VASH) Coordinator in our Behavioral Health Rehab Service.

Responsibilities

The Supervisory Social Worker-HUD-VASH is an integral part of the Mental Health Care Line Mission to provide permanent housing, case management, treatment, clinical assessment, and various other services to eligible Veterans and Families within the system of Mental Health care.

Incumbent must be willing to travel between the Montrose and Castle Point main campuses as well as any of the seven (7) VA Outpatient Clinics, and within the catchment area of the Hudson Valley region as needed.

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

Provides comprehensive psychological/social work/nursing services to Veterans and their families.

Provides a high degree of clinical oversight and creative problem solving.

Responsible for HUD-VASH contractors services and the coordination of on-boarding and assuring documentation in CPRS is accurate.

Serves as the administrative and clinical supervisor for the staff in the HUD-VASH program, including supervision, feedback, evaluation, and coaching of all the staff in the program.

Responsible for the coordination of case management services for Veterans receiving Housing provided through HUD Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers and serving as Contract Manager (COR) for the HUD-VASH Contract.

Must be skilled at interfacing with a number of different staff within the VA as well as staff and agencies in the surrounding community.

Reviewing agreements between Section 8, landlords, Public Housing Authorities and the VA in establishing appropriate referral sites for HUD-VASH placements.

Performs site visits of HUD-VASH apartments to ensure that Veterans reside in safe environments in compliance with local housing codes.

Coordinates care including serving as an advocate on behalf of the Veterans to ensure comprehensive service delivery, and linking and referring Veterans to the VA Medical Center, VA Regional Offices and/or community agencies.

Travel Required

Occasional travel - Travel to Montrose/Castle Point campus, VA Outpatient Clinics and within the catchement area of Hudson Valley region as needed.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

Education. Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).

Licensure. Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level.

Preferred Experience: Preferred Experience:At least two years should be in an area of specialized practice in the Social Work professional discipline. With experience that demonstrates possession of advanced practice Social Work skills and judgment.

Grade Determinations:

Experience, Education and Licensure.

Individuals assigned as Supervisory Social Workers must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level and must be able to provide supervision for subordinate staff to qualify for licensure. Their experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills in a specialty area or in administration demonstrating progressively more professional competency and judgment. They may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience. In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the professional KSAs in subparagraph (b) below.

Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

1. Ability to independently organize work, set priorities, and meet multiple deadlines.

2. Knowledge and skill in management/administration, which includes supervision, consultation, negotiation, and monitoring.

3. Ability to ensure provision of clinical social work services by supervised social workers.

4. Ability to provide administrative supervision and clinical supervision, including supervision for social work licensure.

The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-12.
